PU Flooring application process

To begin the PU Flooring application process, the team began by diamond grinding the existing tiled surface to remove any contaminants and prepare it for the new coating. This process covered an area of 73m², ensuring the surface was clean and properly prepared for adhesion.

To ensure a strong bond between the new flooring system and the existing surface, the grout lines were cut and removed. This was done to create a clean edge for the new system to key into the existing surface effectively.

Perimeter anchoring cuts were made at all edge terminations. This step ensures a secure, seamless transition between the new flooring and any vertical surfaces, especially where coving was used, providing additional stability and durability at the edges.

Hychem Hycrete PU, a 4mm self-leveling polyurethane flooring, was supplied and applied to the prepared surface. This product was chosen for its durability and smooth finish, which is essential for the new flooring system.

While the base layer was still wet, 16/30 grade quartz aggregate was spread across the surface. This blinding process provided a non-skid finish, ensuring that the floor would have the desired slip resistance once fully cured.

After the base layer had cured, any excess quartz aggregate was removed. This step left behind a clean, non-slip surface ready for the topcoat application.

Finally, a topcoat of Hycrete PU TC was applied to seal and finish the flooring. This topcoat not only enhanced the appearance but also added an extra layer of protection, ensuring the flooring system remained durable and easy to maintain.

The result was a smooth, durable, and non-slip floor system with a professional finish, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and safety.
