Applying Polyurethane Cement Flooring with Coving.
The floor areas, totalling 778m², were diamond ground to prepare the surface for coating.
Delineation cuts were made along all perimeters and around drain locations to provide clear boundaries and ensure proper bonding of the coatings at these critical areas.
Aluminium arrowhead profiles were mechanically fixed to all walls that required coving, covering a total of 183 lineal meters. These arrowheads create a defined edge for the coving system and enhance the overall strength of the finish.
Epoxy mortar was mixed and applied to create a 50mm radius, 100mm high cove profile, in line with the detailed specifications. This cove helps provide a smooth, seamless transition between the floor and the walls, ensuring durability and ease of cleaning.
The Hycrete PU-SL coating was applied at a depth of 4mm using a gauge rake. A spike roller was then used to ensure an even and consistent application, following the manufacturer’s instructions to guarantee the coating’s effectiveness and longevity.
While the Hycrete PU-SL was still curing, 16/30 grade quartz sand was broadcast across the surface to provide a non-skid finish. The sand penetrated the coating, increasing the final product’s depth to about 6mm, as recommended by the manufacturer.
After the initial cure, any excess sand or aggregate that did not adhere to the Hycrete PU-SL was removed by vacuuming and sweeping, leaving behind a smooth and finished surface.
Finally, a layer of Hycrete PU-TC was applied using a roller to seal and finish the flooring. This topcoat was applied according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, providing a durable, protective finish that enhances the floor’s resistance to wear and moisture.
This process was carried out step by step to ensure the flooring system was applied efficiently and met all technical specifications for durability and performance.
