Professional concrete repairs with durable concrete coating

The team began by diamond grinding and “V”-shaping the crack locations along approximately 370 linear meters, following the guidelines provided in the supplied Crack Map. This step ensured proper crack preparation for repair.

Once the cracks were shaped, they were irrigated with Epigen 0489 neat epoxy resin. The resin was applied until the cracks reached the point of rejection, ensuring that the cracks were fully filled and sealed.

After the epoxy resin cured, the repaired areas were cup-ground to ensure they were level with the surrounding concrete surface, achieving a smooth and uniform finish.

The concrete surface and upstands (vertical edges or projections) were diamond ground in preparation for coating, covering a total area of 2,000m². This step helped to remove any surface irregularities and enhance adhesion for the next layers.

A 50mm x 50mm 45° epoxy cove was installed along the upstands, extending over 500 linear meters. The cove provides a smooth transition between the floor and vertical surfaces, which improves both durability and appearance.

The first coating step involved applying a base primer of Epigen 4028, which was applied to the prepared surface. While the primer was still wet, 16-30 grade quartz aggregate was spread across it to fully blind the surface. This process ensures a strong foundation for the subsequent layers and enhances traction.

After the base primer had cured, any excess quartz aggregate was removed. This allowed the surface to be clean and ready for the next coating stage.

The next step was the application of a mid-coat of Epigen 4028, followed by the re-blinding of the surface with 16-30 grade quartz aggregate while the mid-coat was still wet. This ensured that the surface had a non-slip finish and further enhanced the durability of the coating.

Once the mid-coat had cured, any remaining waste aggregate was removed, leaving behind a clean and consistent surface for the final coat.

A final finish coat of Epigen 4028 was then applied to seal the non-skid aggregate and provide a uniform, durable finish. This final layer ensures a smooth and visually appealing surface while maintaining the non-slip properties.

Finally, the upstands received two coats of Epigen 4029 as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. This coating adds additional protection to vertical surfaces, ensuring they match the durability and aesthetics of the rest of the surface.

This process resulted in a highly durable, smooth, and non-slip surface with long-lasting protection for both the floor and vertical edges.
